One upon a time, there was a Bihari boy called Madhav. He fell in love with the girl called Riya. Madhav didn't speak English well. Riya did. Madhav wanted a relationship. Riya didn't. Riya just wanted friendship. Madhav didn't. Riya suggested a compromise.

She agreed to be his half girlfriend.

Review:  Simplicity has always been Bhagat's plus point and he has been successful in carrying his specialty in this novel also. The author has placed himself in the story as writer and telling a flashback story of Madhav & Riya. The story contains some negative remark on Bihari guy's mentality which leaded to controversies too. I could not find the plot to be new but as usual you can see in Bollywood Drama Movie. But the story will not let you be bored. The story may create a bad perception about rural Bihar if you have not been well aware thereof earlier. The novel is less bend to literature than Commercial. A lot of scenes have been inspired from regional play which have been subject matter of legal barrier too after realizing the book. The book has been commercially hit not because of any new element but because of a big name associated as author. I enjoyed the book but expectation was unsatisfied to extent. One interesting fact which everybody want to know the concept of half girlfriend and full girlfriend. The answer is simple when you say "we are more than friend but not lovers.". Rest you will find when you read the book.
